The name Dukor is a dialectical version of Monrovia

Hotel Ducor has a great view from the ground to include a monument to J.J. Roberts, first President of Liberia, a settler. At the top of Mamba Point there is an old lighthouse and a statue of Liberia's first president, Americo Liberian Joseph Jenkins Roberts. And towering over it all--over the whole of Monrovia--is the tall, decaying shell of the once glamorous Dukor Intercontinental Hotel.

The Dukor Hotel was once synonymous with luxury in Monrovia. It was one of sub-Saharan Africa's few five-star hotels during the 1960s and 1970s. Owned by the United Methodist Foundation and a Libyan holding, it offers spectacular views of the city.
